Welcome to The Domus Academy

We are 4 days to the end of 2008 and with the beginning of a new year comes the execution of some new ideas! 🙂 Hopefully this isn’t one of the many hare-brained ones we have come up with in the past. *grin*

A bit about this site … I (Angie) have always wanted to blog. Which person hasn’t entertained that lofty thought, eh? But I have always been too busy. But then again which person has time to spare eh?

So how did this finally come about? Well, let’s start here. 2008 was a TERRIBLY busy year for us. We moved to Pasir Ris and for some strange reason started adding activity after activity after activity until it was all I could do everyday to figure out if we were coming or going. So in September we decided that we would have to slow down in the coming year and started making plans to cancel/stop/discontinue a variety of activities by the end of the year.

What we didn’t know at the time was that God was prompting us to slow down in anticipation of some wonderful news. On the 7th of October, we found out that we were expecting Baby Ng #4!

And with the addition of another primary schooler in our homeschool in 2009, we needed to make sure we had enough time for our academics.

So now we had to think of ways to cut down even more! The only thing left to do was to manage the visits to The Home Library.

We used to welcome people over on weekday afternoons to browse, buy and talk about homeschooling over tea. But in 2009, we will only have people over on Saturday mornings.

So I started thinking of other ways to communicate with people. As I thought about the various people coming to visit and chat, it became apparent that the topics of conversation/discussion or questions were very repetitive … why do we homeschool … how did we start … what curriculum do we use … who is Charlotte Mason … what is a narration and how do you do it … how do we get our children to love learning and do it independently … what about PSLE … ???

So the simple answer was … SET UP A WEBSITE! A website with a repository of articles about these very questions/issues. And one that would grow with us as we became more “experienced” homeschoolers (we have just completed our 4th year). And more experienced parents (our oldest is now 8).

So … here we are! Welcome in to! Come in and visit with us for a while.
